A Brief Profile

Prof. Subhas Chandra Roy, former Head & Dean of Instructions, North East Regional Institute of Education (NERIE), Umiam, Ri-Bhoi, Meghalaya, a constituent unit of National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), has more than 34 years of teaching, administration and research experiences spanning school education to higher education. He has contributed immensely to the State of Bihar, Jharkhand and North Eastern States during Universalization of Primary and Elementary Education, DPEP, SSA, and Implementation of RTE Act 2009 and NEP 2020. Masters in Education and Life Sciences he has obtained his doctorate degree in Education. A gold medalist at master’s level he is the recipient of Bihar Teacher Educators’ Association (BTEA) Educational Award for the development of education in India and educational development of weaker sections of the society. He has guided many researches at master and doctorate level in addition to the evaluation of Ph. D theses of various Indian universities. He has been a Member of different Boards of Studies, Selection Boards and various other academic committees in his prolonged career. He has contributed to and also led various training programmes and workshops as a key resource person/expert. There are many research papers, articles, books and materials (training modules, teaching-learning materials, etc developed in workshop mode) to his credit. He is on the Editorial Board of couple of ISSN coded educational journals and peer reviewed educational journals published by CIET and NCERT. He has attended many regional, national and international level seminars/webinars/conferences in various capacities (Key-note speaker, Chairperson of technical sessions, etc), including organization of few of them. As a Consultant, Unicef he helped implement the Para Teacher Programme in the State of Bihar. He is specialized in Program Evaluation from Institute of Education (University of London), Cambridge University, and National Federation of Educational Research (NFER), UK, University of California, Los Angeles (USA), Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo (USA) and University of Ottawa (Canada). He has been an active member of many state, regional, national and international level mega research projects. He has been a member of high-powered Education Reform Committee (Prof. Sachidananda Committee), Bihar and also Project High School Committee, Bihar. He is the Chairperson of the National Mission for Mentoring Committee (NMM Committee) constituted by NCTE, a National Member of Eastern Regional Committee (ERC), NCTE, Member, State Advisory Council for RTE Act, 2009, Govt of Arunachal Pradesh, Dept of Education, Itanagar, Member, Committee of Experts (COE), Project Implementation Unit (PIU)-1, SHCDM Project, Meghalaya, Member, National Focus Group on School Governance and Leadership and an Observer, National Focus Group on Environmental Education. At present he is a Professor of Education at Department of Education, NERIE-NCERT, Umiam, Ri-Bhoi, Meghalaya-793103.
