A Brief Profile

A Ph.D. in Education, Dr. Subhas Chandra Roy taught in the Post-Graduate Department of Education, Patna University for nearly a decade before joining as Reader in Life Sciences and Primary Education at NERIE, NCERT, Shillong in the year 2006. He has also worked with UNICEF as Consultant to help assist the implementation of the Para Teacher Programme in the state of Bihar.. Dr Roy is having more than twenty years of experience of teaching, research and programme implementation including exposure to over fifty workshops/seminars/conferences of regional, national and international levels. He was a part of NCERT team which had undergone “Training in Advanced Researches in Programme Evaluation” . He has visited University of London, Cambridge University and NFER, UK; University of Ottawa, Western Michigan University and University of California, Los Angeles (USA) for advanced training in Programme Evaluation.

There are two books to his credit namely “Prathmic Kaksha Ke Sandharbha”; and “Teaching Quality Improvement: A Classroom Observation Based Approach”. Some of the books that he edited are: (1) ‘Prerna’- 10 Days Trainers’ Training Module (First Edition-2002), (2) ‘Prerna’- 10 Days Trainers’ Training Module (Second Edition), (3) ‘Prerna’- 30 Days PSM Training Module (First Edition-2002), (4) ‘Prerna’- 30 Days PSM Training Module (Second Edition), (5) ‘Prerna’- PSM Handouts (2002), and (6) ‘Meri Kitab’- PSM Training Support Material (2004).

Dr Roy has also 17 research papers/articles to his credit which have been published in several Journals/Magazines/ SOUVENIR. He has also got four of his poems published - three in the Magazine ‘SAMPARK’, DIET, Ratu, Ranchi, and one in INJOT,BEP,Ranchi. He has completed five national level research projects and has been associated with development of several materials in the field of education both at state and national levels. He has been associated with Bihar Education Project for a long time.

Dr. Balaiada R. Dkhar completed her Post Graduation in Education from NEHU, in the year 2001 and qualified NET, Examination in the year 2000. She was awarded Ph. D Degree in Education from Utkal University, Bhubaneswar. She got her first posting at Regional Institute of Education, Bhubaneswar and joined NCERT on 7th April 2004. Prior to this, she was teaching in a College and also has some teaching experiences at the school level. She served at RIE, Bhubaneswar for almost nine years and also coordinated many in- service training programmes and organized many workshops. Dr. Dkhar was the course coordinator of the International Diploma Course in Guidance and Counselling (IDGC) while working at RIE, Bhubaneswar. She’s presently transferred to NERIE, Shillong and is the Co- coordinator of the Certificate Course in Social Science and the Team Member of the Certificate Course in Inclusive Education for the Disabled (IED). She has some upcoming projects including research project to work out at NERIE. She’s the Joint Editor of the Book entitled Rural Education: Challenges and Strategies. Dr. B R. Dkhar had participated and presented papers in many International, National as well as Regional Seminars and Conferences. She has also attended Orientation and Refresher courses in Education. She has published quite a few numbers of Research Papers in many Educational Journals. She has also contributed one article in the book entitled ICT in Education Vol.1. Mr. Tasongwi Newmei passed the HSCL examination from Don Bosco, Tamenglong with first division. He obtained his P.U. (Arts) degree from St. Anthony’s College, Shillong; B.A. degree from St. Edmund’s College, Shillong; and M.A. and M.Phil degrees from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi with first divisions and first class grades.  His academic achievements include the Mother Alvin CMC Memorial Award for securing the highest marks from Don Bosco School, Tamenglong in the HSLC examination, Certificate of Merit awarded for securing rank No. 1 in B.A. (Sociology) examination conducted by NEHU in 2000. Ms. Melissa G. Wallang has done her M.Phil. in Linguistics from JNU and has submitted her Ph.D. thesis to JNU in linguistics. She joined NERIE, Shillong as Lecturer in the year 2006.  She specializes in sign linguistics and language education for the deaf. Her academic interests include i) promotion of sign language of the Deaf in North-Eastern States; ii) creating a multi-media dictionary of Shillong Sign Language; iii) inclusive education; iv) second language learning and teaching and minority/tribal languages. Ms. Melissa has also published a book, viz., “Sign Linguistics and Language Education for the Deaf: An Overview of North-East Region” published by Academic Excellence, 2007, xviii, 174 p, figs, ISBN : 81-89901-20-2. She presented a paper on “Phonology of Shillong Sign Language (ShSL) and English Language Teaching” at a seminar entitled “Phonology, Vocabulary, Literature & Culture in Language Teaching in the North East”, NERIE-NCERT, 2008.

She has conducted many programs while working at NERIE. She has coordinated the development of following: i) Development of a manual on bridging the gap between home language and school language in the state of Meghalaya, NERIE-NCERT, 2007; ii) Manual of Basic/Children’s Vocabulary in Tribal/Minor Languages of NE States (Meghalaya, Mizoram & Sikkim), NERIE-NCERT, 2008; iii) Instructional material on Sign language for Deaf Education with reference to Indian sign language at the Primary level, NERIE-NCERT, 2009; iv) Manual on Sign Language for Deaf Education at the Secondary Level, NERIE-NCERT, 2011. She was also associated with the Development of Source Book on Learners’ Assessment at Primary Level, NCERT. Ms. Melissa has been associated with research projects entitled “Status Study of Tribal Dialects at Elementary Level under SSA”, NERIE-NCERT and research project of DOL, NCERT entitled “A study on the teaching of English in Government Schools at the Primary Level in India”, an MHRD, project. Postgraduate in both Linguistic and Anthropology and Ph.D. in Linguistic, Dr. Ch. Sarajubala Devi joined NERIE, Shillong as Lecturer in the year 2006. Before, she joined NERIE, she was teaching Manipuri to adult non-native teacher trainees at North Eastern Regional Languages Centre, Guwahati for five years. While working as guess lecturer in NERLC, Guwahati, Dr. Sarajubala had participated in several workshops for the development of syllabus, materials and evaluation techniques for intensive Course in Manipuri. She has keen interests in participating and presenting papers in conferences and seminars.  Dr. Devi has presented more than 7 papers on language and language teaching in such seminars which have later been published in some leading journals of national and international repute.

During the last three years of her association with NCERT, Dr. Sarajubala has coordinated 2 research programmes, 5 workshops/developments, 5 trainings/orientations and 2 regional level meetings. Mr.Umesh Sharma joined NERIE as Assistant Professor in September, 2014. Before joining NERIE, he worked as Principal of Thakur Hari Prasad Institute of Rehabilitation Sciences, Hyderabad since 2008. He has experiences as coordinator for M.Ed. Special Education (Mental Retardation) & B.Ed. Special Education (Learning Disability), and lectured for various levels of courses like Post Graduate, Graduate, Post Graduate Diploma and Diploma in the field of Rehabilitation.
As a dynamic teacher, actively support teaching professionals on effective work strategies, trained classroom teachers on modifications and accommodations to instruction and materials ensuring the diverse needs of every student are successfully realized. He is an active Visiting Expert of Rehabilitation Council of India, New Delhi

A Brief Profile

Dr. Seema R. did her Ph. D. from University of Lucknow. She joined as Assistant Professor in Botany at NERIE-NCERT, Shillong, in April 2016. Before joining NERIE she worked as a teacher and as an administrative and academic coordinator in a reputed ISO 9001 and QCI’s NABET accredited school, Lucknow for six years. She has been awarded first and second position for the teaching aid category at City level and Northern India Science fair, respectively, organized by National Science Centre, Delhi. Prior to this she worked as a guest lecturer in govt. aided colleges at Kerala for two years and also served as project assistant at National Botanical Research Institute (CSIR), Lucknow for one year. Dr. Seema R. had participated and presented papers in National and International Seminars and Conferences. She has also published a paper on her research work in Elsevier’s, Industrial Crops and Products, Vol 65, March 2015, pp 175- 179.
